How do I take a photo with the subject black and white and the background black?
I want to take a black and white photo. I want the subject to be black & white and the background to be black. What materials do I need? Camera settings? Flash or no flash? Details would be nice.

I can tell you how *I* did it, but that does not mean YOU can do it the same way.
A simple, black muslin backdrop was used, size 12 ft x 30 ft. I used one key light strobe with umbrella to model right. A white reflector was used to model left. A hair light strobe controlled with barndoors was used above the head to model left. Ratio of light was aprx. 1 stop over on hair light, determined with an external light meter to measure strobe output with radio control. Shot was taken with a Mamiya 645 film camera with Fuji Pro 400H film shot at 320 ISO. Processing by Chromatics in Nashville, Tn and scanned at time of processing. Conversion to black and white in Channel Mixer in Photoshop CS.
