Good dark/gothic fantasy novels?

Could you recommend some good fantasy books with dark, preferably gothic settings and/or style?

The Gormenghast series by Mervyn Peake is a classic.

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostrova is another good one – it does have vampires, but they’re not the stereotypical popular sparkly ones, and they’re actually relatively minor.
