Im painting a portrait for my girlfriend in it shes an angel, i need a background idea, but i wont do clouds?
I wont use clouds because it kinda resembles death. I want something more light and not like a real scene. She has green eyes, pink cheeks, brown hair, a white shirt, and black pants
I suggest going with a monochrome background … put all the focus on her without distractions behind her. something like these examples:
Rogier van der Weyden “Portrait of a Lady”
Jan Vermeer “Girl with a Pearl Earring”
Jan van Eyck “Man with a Red Turban” (I think that’s what it’s called)
Pablo Picasso “Self Portrait”
Find a color in her eyes, cheeks or lips, and then use that as the background. It will make the corresponding color in her face really pop.
