Frank Gehry and the Modern Art Movement?

I’m doing a report on Frank Gehry for a Modern Art class. I know architecture doesn’t usually fit into this area, but I was wondering if anyone had advice for a possible thesis statement regarding the two. Either how Gehry relates or conflicts modern art in the 20th century.

Modern art can be seen as an evolution from the organic forms of the previous Art Nouveau movement, emphasizing geometry and the functional. Technology was a major component, as was the ideal of accessibility. However, Gehry was part of the Deconstructionist movement, departing from modernism and disregarding functionality. Knowing this, perhaps think about Gehry’s work (like you mentioned, his architecture) and how it fits in with this theme. His work, such as his Dancing Buildings can be seen as a architecture devoid of its original purpose. He has recently moved on to explore the jewelry facet in art, so maybe you could look into that as well. His style seems to favor metallic materials/surfaces and swooping, curvalinear forms.
