Modern Abstract
name some succesfull modern abstract artists alive today?

plz :]

Hmmm, Sam Francis just died in 2005. de Kooning, Rothko, Pollack, Kandinsky, Motherwell, Diebenkorn, Albers, etc. all passed away a while ago. Cross Rauschenberg off the list, just died. Jeesh.

Wow, after googling and trying to see who is still around, I see why you are asking this question! I found only a few masters left:
David Driskell
Frank Stella

If you are asking about successful commercial artists sold in galleries today, some I can think of in various media:

Jun Kaneko is a master ceramicist
Hiroki Morinoue, abstract painter
Dale Chihuly – art glass
Saul Leiter – abstract photography

Who were the leading Abstract Expressionist artists? What were the different types of Abstract Expressionist art? ”Abstract Expressionism” answers these questions. It also explains how Abstract Expressionism developed in New York and was the first U.S. art movement to become internationally famous, investigates the ideas and techniques of both action painters and colour-field painters, and considers how modern artists continue to be influenced by the Abstract Expressionists. ”Art on the Wall” is an exciting and informative series that explores a range of art movements and styles. Each title in the series looks at the history behind the movement and discusses the techniques used by its artists. The text is supported with stunning paintings and other artworks that illustrate each art style. The titles also include biographies of well-known artists and try-it-yourself activities that encourage readers to create their works of art using the techniques of the movement.

Abstract Painting

Abstract Painting

$16.46

Until now, the techniques used to create great abstract paintings were surrounded by a veil of mystery. Abstract Painting: Concepts and Techniques lifts that veil to reveal the exact methods behind the masterworks. Now students and professional artists can stop guessing and start building on the techniques of the great abstract artists to create their own innovative new work. Two clear, comprehensible sections let artists focus quickly on their specific areas of interest. The first section, on Traditional Painterly Abstraction, using brush and easel, looks at pictorial space, brushwork, paint quality, and college. The second section, on Post-Painterly Modern Abstraction, considers options ranging from the pour-and-spatter techniques of Jackson Pollock to the staining, scraping, and abrading of modern acrylic artists. Step-by-step recipes for key approaches show artists how to get the best aesthetic results, freeing them to move forward philosophically.

Abstract Expressionism and Other Modern Works

Promised more than two decades ago, the Muriel Kallis Steinberg Newman Collection of modern art only joined the permanent collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art recently. Published in celebration of that event, this catalogue reproduces images of works by some 50 artists found in the collection, including pieces produced by Arshile Gorky, Franz Kline, Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, Clyfford Still, Max Ernst, and Joan MirS. The focus of the collection is on abstract expressionism, but such focus is not exclusive. Each artist is discussed, together with the examples of their work found in the Newman Collection, in individual scholarly essays. Annotation )2007 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
